EPS Korea Nepal: How the Work Permit Route Works, From the Language Test to the Roster
A plain walkthrough of the EPS route from Nepal: what the scheme is, how the language test and register work, and how to verify a payment demand before paying anyone.
Nepal-Database is not a recruitment agency. We do not process EPS applications, we do not take payments, and we do not recommend or name any agency. That matters here, because a great deal of what is written about this route is written by people who do.
Most of what reaches a Nepali reader about the EPS Korea Nepal route arrives second-hand: a cousin's timeline, a consultancy poster, a Facebook page with a countdown graphic. The scheme itself is run by two governments, and both publish what they require. What follows walks through the sequence, points at the pages that actually state the rules, and sets out how to check a payment demand before you hand over money.
What the scheme is, and who runs it
EPS stands for Employment Permit System: the Korean government's arrangement for hiring foreign workers into designated sectors. Nepal is one of the countries that sends workers under it. On the Korean side, the scheme is administered by the agency that runs EPS, the Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea), working under the Ministry of Employment and Labor. On the Nepali side, the department that issues labour permits for outbound workers, the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), handles the government paperwork that lets you leave legally.
Two consequences follow. First, no agent holds a place for you anywhere. Second, every step below has an official page attached to it, and that page outranks anything you are told in an office or a group chat.
The sequence, step by step
| Step | What happens | Official page to open yourself |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Language test | You sit the EPS-TOPIK test in Nepal when a sitting is announced. | The EPS-TOPIK notices on eps.go.kr |
| 2. Register | If you pass, you enter the register of available workers, often called the roster. | The EPS registration page on eps.go.kr |
| 3. Employer selection | Korean employers request workers from the register. Selection is theirs to make. | The roster explanation on eps.go.kr |
| 4. Contract and visa | An employment contract follows, then an E-9 visa application. | eps.go.kr, and the Korean mission in Nepal for visa lodgement |
| 5. Labour permit | DoFE processes the outbound labour permit and related clearances. | The labour permit pages on dofe.gov.np |
| 6. Pre-departure and arrival | Orientation, insurance and arrival formalities in Korea. | Pre-departure guidance on eps.go.kr and dofe.gov.np |
Each of those pages states its own current rules. We are not summarising them because they change between rounds, and a blog post is a poor place to keep a moving requirement.
What EPS-TOPIK screens for
The test exists to answer one question for a Korean employer: can this person understand instructions and function on a shop floor or a farm in Korea? It is built around Korean language comprehension, and the official announcement for each sitting sets out the sections, the eligibility conditions, the application window and the rules for the day. Sittings are announced on eps.go.kr; DoFE also posts notices about the process from the Nepali side on dofe.gov.np. Watch both.
We do not republish schedules, we do not quote test fees, and we do not state pass marks or pass rates. Those belong to the announcement, not to us, and a copied schedule is exactly the kind of thing that goes stale and ruins someone's year.
How the roster actually works
Think of the register as a pool, not a queue. Passing the test makes you available. It does not promise that an employer will pick you, and it does not put you ahead of anyone because you applied earlier or because someone promised to "push" your file. Korean employers request workers against their own demand, in their own sectors, and the system matches from the pool.
This is the part of the process most exposed to marketing. A timeline shown to you by a consultancy, a screenshot of an internal list, a claim that a particular office has special access: none of it changes how selection works. Read the roster explanation on eps.go.kr directly rather than trusting our paraphrase of it or anyone else's.
Checking a fee demand before you pay
We are not quoting amounts here, not even roughly, because the moment a number appears in an article people treat it as the standard. Use a method instead.
Open the official page that covers the step you are being charged for, and read what it says about charges and receipts. Ask the person in front of you for a written breakdown on letterhead: what the money is for, which office it goes to, and what document you receive for it. A legitimate payment produces a receipt with your name and the payer organisation's name on it. Ask which government office receives the money and whether you can pay it directly. If the answers drift, or the breakdown is verbal only, or you are told the official page is out of date and their version is the real one, stop.
Anything you are told about the EPS Korea Nepal route that cannot be traced back to those two sites is hearsay, however confident the person delivering it sounds.
Documents you will be asked for, and where the requirement is stated
| Document category | The page that states the current requirement |
|---|---|
| Passport valid for the intended period | DoFE, dofe.gov.np |
| Test result and registration record | eps.go.kr |
| Employment contract from the Korean employer | eps.go.kr |
| Labour permit application and supporting papers | dofe.gov.np |
| Medical fitness certificate as specified | The medical requirement stated on dofe.gov.np |
| Insurance and pre-departure orientation record | eps.go.kr and dofe.gov.np |
We do not name clinics, consultancies or agencies, and we do not reproduce an official checklist line by line, because a list copied today is a list someone will follow incorrectly next year.
Questions people ask
Can an agent get me into the register? No. You sit the test and you register. Nobody else can do either on your behalf in a way that improves your position.
How long will the whole thing take? There is no fixed answer, because it depends on employer demand in your sector. Anyone quoting you a firm month is guessing.
Someone showed me a pass list. Is that proof? Results are issued through the official channel. A screenshot proves only that someone took a screenshot.
Is the test in Nepali? No. It tests Korean language ability, which is the point of it.
This article was written in October 2026. Every page we have named is one we send you to rather than summarise, because requirements move between rounds. If an address does not open, go to eps.go.kr or dofe.gov.np and work from the site's own menu rather than from a link someone forwarded you.
